Dakota City Public Library

The Dakota City Public Library provides a number of services to Dakota City and Dakota County Residents. Library cards are free to all residents of Dakota County. Our library contains over 6,000 books, audio books, DVDs, and magazines. The library circulates more than 3,000 items per year. The library has free Wi-FI and a computer lab open to the public.

The Library is staffed by two part-time librarians. Kathy Schable is the Head Librarian. She has worked at the Library since 2014 and has served as the Head Librarian since 2015. Diann Pelelo has served as the Library Aide since the Fall of 2018.

Library check out policies are as follows:

  • Library books (including audio books) may be checked out for 2 weeks. Books are limited to 6 per person.
  • Magazines may be checked out for 1 week. Magazines are limited to 4 per person.
  • DVD movies may be check out for 2 days. DVDs are limited to 2 per person.

Overdue fees are assessed at $.05 per day for books and magazines and $1.00 per day for DVD movies.

Patrons may return materials to the Library after hours by using one of two drop boxes available. A blue drop box is located at the front of the library. A second drop box is located on the east side of the building. Both drop boxes are checked daily.

A printer is available and can be accessed from the computer lab. Printed copies are charged at $.20 per page (black and white copies only).

The Library hosts a number of activities throughout the year. Story Hour is held at 3:30 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month. The Library participates in the Summer Reading Program. The Library also holds monthly book club meetings. The Library also works closely with the UNL Extension Office, the Beyond the Bell Program, and Pathways Preschool.
